Draft 2026-08-17
Warranty
What happens if the hardware fails. The shape of this is settled; the numbers in it are not, and they are marked rather than guessed.
What this covers
A Northing One receiver bought from Oran Dynamics, against defects in materials and workmanship: the unit does not do what it is supposed to do, and nothing you did caused that.
TODO(copy): needs a sourced number — the warranty period, and whether it runs from delivery or from dispatch.
It covers the receiver itself. Accessories in the box, cables and mounts are TODO(legal): covered on the same terms, or on shorter ones.
Your rights by law come first
This warranty is in addition to the rights you have as a consumer, and takes nothing away from them. In the EU those rights include a legal guarantee against goods that do not conform to the contract, which runs for a minimum period set by law and is owed by the seller regardless of anything written on this page.
TODO(legal): the exact statutory phrasing, per country. The EU minimum, the position in the United Kingdom, and the United States and Australia, where consumer guarantees are stated differently and Australian Consumer Law prescribes wording we do not have.
What it does not cover
The ordinary list, and it will be written to be read rather than to be hidden behind:
- Accidental damage: dropping it, running it over, crushing a connector.
- Water or dust beyond what the unit is rated for. TODO(copy): needs a sourced number — the ingress rating and the operating temperature range. Neither is published anywhere on this site yet, so this exclusion cannot be written honestly until they are.
- Corrosion, chemical exposure, and damage from an unsuitable power supply.
- Opening or modifying the unit, or damage caused by a repair someone else attempted. TODO(legal): opening a sealed unit should not void everything by default; decide what actually voids what.
- Cosmetic wear that does not affect how it works.
- Wear items and consumables. TODO(legal): whether the battery is one, and what capacity floor is covered.
Things that look like faults and are not
Worth stating plainly, because these are the ones support sees first:
- Accuracy that is worse than the published figures because of tree cover, a shed roof, a bad antenna position, or a phone with no signal. Physics is not a hardware defect, and RTK vs PPP explains what each mode can and cannot do.
- Being outside an RTK coverage zone. The zones and their gaps are in the coverage guide, and we check your location before you pay.
- Reduced accuracy after a subscription ends. That is the free Northing Global mode working as designed, at 10–20 cm. The receiver has not failed; it has fallen back.
Making a claim
Email hello@northinggnss.com with the serial number, what it is doing, and roughly when it started. The app can generate a diagnostics bundle, and attaching it usually saves a round trip. Do not send a unit back before you have a return reference from us.
TODO(copy): needs a sourced number — how quickly we respond, the turnaround once a unit reaches us, whether we advance replace, who pays each leg of the shipping, and the return address.
TODO(legal): the remedy, and who chooses it. Repair, replacement or refund, and what happens to the remaining warranty on a repaired or replaced unit.
If it arrives damaged
Tell us as soon as you open the box and we sort it out. That is a delivery problem rather than a warranty claim, and it is handled faster. TODO(legal): the reporting window, and whether it is treated under the warranty or under returns.
After the warranty ends
The intent is to offer paid repair for as long as parts exist, and to say publicly how long that is. A product sold on the argument that it never holds your work hostage should not become landfill because a connector failed in year four.
TODO(legal): whether that intent becomes a commitment, and for how long after a model is discontinued. Same question for security updates, which the terms also leave open.
Firmware
Updates are free and are delivered over the air, signed, and roll themselves back if an update misbehaves. A defect introduced by our firmware is our problem to fix, not a reason to send hardware anywhere.
