Corrections

Northing RTK

The live data stream that turns metres into centimeters. Included for the receiver's first 12 months, then a flat $299 a year — no base station to own, no radio, and no second data plan.

What the stream is

Not a position. A description of the errors.

A common misconception is that some server knows where you are and sends back a better answer. Nothing in the chain knows or needs to know where you are. What the stream carries is a description of the errors in the system right now — refinements to each satellite's clock and orbit, and a model of the ionospheric and tropospheric delay across the region. Your receiver applies them to its own raw measurements and computes the position itself, on the roof.

Your position stays yours

Getting corrections is not conditional on reporting where you are. The data is broadcast-shaped, not a question-and-answer about you.

It is a trickle, not a stream

Describing a handful of satellites' errors costs about 1 kbps — a few megabytes over a long working day, and it survives one bar of signal.

Nothing to survey in

Corrections are modelled across whole continents and delivered over the internet. No tripod, no radio pair, no licence, and nothing on your side to notice when it stops.

The path it takes

Through the phone you already carry.

There is no cellular modem in the receiver, and that is a decision rather than an omission: a second radio means a second SIM, a second bill, roaming to get wrong abroad, more power on the roof, and another radio to certify in every market. Instead the app relays the stream over Bluetooth Low Energy at roughly 1 kbps, and position, fix type, satellite counts and health come back over the same link.

  1. Mount and power

5 V USB, somewhere with a clear view of the sky — roof, bar, or pole.

  2. Pair it once

Bluetooth pairing in the app. The receiver has no keypad and needs no network credentials of its own.

  3. Corrections start

Nothing to type: no server address, no mount point, no port, no username and password.

  4. Watch it fix

Seconds, in open sky. RTK does not converge — it fixes, and the accuracy arrives as a step change.

If you have ever configured an NTRIP client at the edge of a field with cold hands, that list of omissions is the entire point. The long version is in how Northing RTK works.

Coverage

Where it reaches, and where it does not.

Northing RTK is a modelled service with real, computed boundaries. The map below is the same one on the homepage coverage section, and the gaps are listed as plainly as the coverage — finding one from the cab is a much worse way to learn about it.

Northing RTK — centimeter zones, subscription (first year included) Northing Global — free built-in mode, works everywhere

Simplified map, current as of August 2026. Zone edges are approximate — we confirm your exact location at checkout.

Covered

  • Contiguous United States and Canada
  • Most of Europe, including Ireland and the UK
  • Japan and South Korea
  • New Zealand
  • Brazil
  • Parts of Australia — New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, plus the areas around Adelaide, Brisbane, and Perth

The gaps worth knowing about

  • No Alaska, no Hawaii, no US offshore territories. "US coverage" means the contiguous states.
  • Australia is partial in exactly the wrong places for broadacre work — much of the Western Australia wheatbelt and the Queensland cropping country falls outside the zones.
  • Boundaries are polygons, not national borders. A property near an edge deserves a specific check rather than an assumption.
  • Coverage is about the service, not the sky. Being inside a zone still does not help under a canopy or beside a grain bin.

Your location is checked against current coverage at checkout — if the service cannot serve your fields, we say so before you pay, not after. The map, the gaps and how to check a specific location are in the coverage guide, and support will give you a straight answer on a specific town or set of coordinates.

When the stream stops

Correction age is the number worth watching.

Corrections describe conditions that change slowly, so a slightly stale correction is still mostly right and the accuracy decays rather than vanishing. In our dropout testing the receiver held centimeter accuracy for about a minute unaided, degraded gradually rather than falling off a cliff, and was back to RTK-Fixed 24 seconds after the stream returned.

An age that climbs and then resets is a phone that briefly lost signal. An age that climbs and keeps climbing is a connection that needs attention — and after 30 seconds the receiver stops being subtle about it and raises "Stale Corrections" to every connected app, whatever the positioning engine underneath claims.

Why that watchdog exists

When a correction stream dies silently, many GNSS engines keep reporting centimeter confidence while true error drifts. We measured it: quality flags, accuracy estimates and correction-age fields all frozen while real error grew from 7 cm toward 40 cm. That failure is worse than plain inaccuracy, because it destroys your ability to know which work to trust.

What it costs

One flat price, and a reminder before every charge.

Included for the receiver's first 12 months, in the $999 price
$299/yr after that — flat, no per-hour metering, no tiers to outgrow
Reminder email before every renewal — a published promise, not a courtesy
Cancel anytime — the receiver keeps working

Heavy commercial use — thousands of connected hours a year — has a fair-use ceiling, stated plainly in the terms rather than buried in a metering table. The whole of the pricing is on the pricing page.

If you cancel

The receiver keeps working.

It never bricks and there is no lock-in. Without a subscription the receiver falls back to Northing Global, the free positioning mode built into every unit: no zones, no account, no data plan, anywhere on Earth. Accuracy is 10–20 cm once converged, and it takes minutes to settle after power-on rather than seconds — fine for rough guidance, for marking a point or finding a stake again, and not a substitute for RTK on repeated guidance passes.

Resubscribe and RTK is back in seconds. There is no hardware upgrade and no trade-in: the receiver you already own is the receiver that uses it.

Northing Global is not a plan you buy — it is the mode every receiver falls back to. Why a convergence-based mode behaves so differently once the antenna is moving is covered honestly in RTK vs PPP.

$999, corrections in the box.

Pilot batch late 2026. No payment taken until units ship, and your location is checked before you pay.
